Over almost seven weeks, I had the opportunity to work for Contrast Film and their latest movie production, "Der Läufer" (engl: "The Runner"). (Directed by Hannes Baumgartner / Director of Photography: Gaëtan Varone / First Assistant Camera: Orit Teply)

The majority was shot on an Arri Alexa Mini (2K ProRes 4444XQ). On a live event, we had a 2nd Alexa Mini, and an Alexa Plus. A Canon C300 was used to simulate an ENG camera. The editing system was Avid based.

DoP Gaëtan Varone had a clear vision what the grading should look like. He preferred an organic overall look with the priorities on the skin tones. We wanted to get with the grading as close as possible to the desired end look, so people in post don't have to adapt too much between color or luminance gaps.

The workflow was quite tight. Besides an advanced backup process, DNxHD115 Proxies and H.264 Rushes had to be rendered with only a half of a day delay. Even though time was short, I managed to color grade the footage on set quite close to what the DoP had in mind and people were overall really happy with the Proxies and Rushes.
